 CNMP Component Number 2:

Land Application of Manure and Wastewater

including; Nutrient Balance and Timing and Methods of Application

Land Application of Manure and Wastewater:
Land application is the most common, and usually most desirable method of utilizing manure and wastewater because of the value of the nutrients and organic matter. Land application should be planned to ensure that the proper amount of nutrients are applied in a way that does not cause harm to the environment or to public health. Land application in accordance with the CNMP should minimize water quality and public health risk. Considerations for appropriate land application should include:

• Nutrient Balance: The primary purpose of nutrient management is to achieve the level of nutrients (e.g., nitrogen and phosphorus) required to grow the planned crop by balancing the nutrients that are already in the soil and from other sources with those that will be applied in manure, biosolids, and commercial fertilizer. At a minimum, nutrient management should prevent the application of nutrients at rates that will exceed the capacity of the soil and the planned crops to assimilate nutrients and prevent pollution. Soils, manure, and wastewater should be tested to determine nutrient content.

In accordance with the CNMP, the primary purpose of Deskins "Quick-Dry" Filtration Process is to make the liquid and solid portions of wastewater the most manageable.  By accurately and affordably implementing the process, liquid can be applied to soil year round with little or no worry about improper application for soil requirements.

As needed, the polymer used can be adjusted and the nutrient content of the liquid altered to suit the soil and crop requirements.

Biosolid can be stored to develop Class A Biosolid or sold for profit or traded for nutrient requirements as commercial fertilizer.  The biosolid is considered valuable raw material by fertilizer companies.

• Timing and Methods of Application: Care must be taken when land-applying manure and wastewater to prevent it from entering streams, other water bodies, or environmentally sensitive areas. The timing and methods of application should minimize the loss of nutrients to ground or surface water and the loss of nitrogen to the atmosphere. Manure and wastewater application equipment should be calibrated to ensure that the quantity of material being applied is what is planned.

Consider the nutrient level of your present liquid storage and the ability to adjust when necessary by the changing of the polymer, therefore diluting liquid storage to levels that are acceptable for your facilities environment.
When wastewater poured over blanket of snow, proper usage of the Deskins "Quick-Dry" Filtration Process leaves the snow white and perfectly separates the liquid and solid portions as programmed.

Application of dry biosolid portion, due to having the consistency of dirt or small particle fertilizer, can be applied with the same equipment as commercial fertilizer.
