Environmentally Superior Technology or Technologies.

Any technology, or combination of technologies that (1) is permittable by the appropriate governmental authority; (2) is determined to be technically, operationally, and economically feasible for an identified category or categories of farms and (3) meets the following performance standards:

PERFORMANCE GUARANTEE with Every Installation for THE MOST EFFECTIVE LIQUID-SOLID SEPARATION POSSIBLE!

  1. Eliminate the discharge of animal waste to surface waters and groundwater through direct discharge, seepage, or runoff;

 Deskins “Quick-Dry” Filtration Process™ Technology changes animal waste products into a retrievable biosolid and liquid effluent portion.  The process is able to retain 100% of the total soluble solids in a predictable (programmable) biosolid cake product.  Remaining nutrients including inorganic nitrogen and inorganic phosphorus are transferred via the underdrain into an effluent catch area (liquid storage) or tank, where they can be further altered to meet any additional water quality requirements.

 The water from Deskins “Quick-Dry” Filtration Process™ is capable of sustaining aquatic life. Through nitrifying microbial action the effective proven nitrification/denitrification technologies exist to convert ammonia to nitrate.  These microbes become overwhelmed and provide substandard performance due to the nutrient excess in concentrated swine wastewater.  Removal of nutrient majority by removing biosolids through the use of polyacrylamide polymers and Deskins “Quick-Dry” Filtration Process™ prior to introduction of nitrifying microbes adds to the efficacy of the ammonia to nitrate conversion.

 If caught in large tank, leaching is not an option. If not, leaching of remaining nutrients is dependent upon the current lagoon or application procedure, however, extremely reduced.

  1. Substantially eliminate atmospheric emissions of ammonia;

 The Deskins “Quick-Dry” Filtration Process™ alters the physical state of the organic nitrogen and organic phosphorus into a biosolid that has reduced liquid therefore reducing evapotranspiration into the atmosphere.

  1. Substantially eliminate the emission of odor that is detectable beyond the boundaries of the parcel or tract of land on which the swine farm is located;

 Odor emission is unnoticeable even as the swine wastewater enters the “Quick-Dry” Filter Process due to the velocity and chemical/physical binding characteristics of the RapidFloc Mixer (flocculation-mixing unit).  As the biosolid dries on the “Quick-Dry” Filter Bed, the odor is still not noticeable.  The effluent portion has no noticeable odor as well.  Factors that cause the smell have been altered and will dry faster than conventional methods of manure handling or be contained by effluent catch tank or diluted in current lagoon.  Odor can be used as a secondary indicator that the process is not being managed properly.

  1. Substantially eliminate the release of disease-transmitting vectors and airborne pathogens;

Due to the unpredictability of disease-transmitting vectors and airborne pathogens, the produced biosolid should be transported away from the unit at the time of biosolid retrieval or shortly thereafter.  The rate at which the flocculation polymer mixing unit proceeds, any very small particles including those containing airborne pathogens and disease-transmitting vectors would be bound in the biosolid or flow to the effluent catch tank with the liquid portion.  The biosolid created after 5 to 7 days of drying is considered a Class C biosolid upon retrieval and upon completion of drying (90 days open air drying or 30 days at 157 degrees Fahrenheit) as designated by the Environmental Protection Agency, the biosolid is considered Class A biosolid.  The biosolids could then be used as a soil conditioner/fertilizer for parks, offices, and private residences or safely applied to fields.

 The pH can be altered through biosolid lime application for extremely basic (pH 12) if so recommended decreasing disease-transmitting vectors and airborne pathogens.

 Retrieval using AquaTrac machinery breaks biosolid cake into very small particles allowing greater surface area to be exposed to air and cause increased rate of complete drying.

  1. Substantially eliminate nutrient and heavy metals contamination of soil and groundwater.

 Due to the programmable, accurate nature of the Deskins “Quick-Dry” Filtration Process™, the removal of nutrients and heavy metals depends upon the incoming levels, stability of compound, and the polymer used.

 The Deskins “Quick-Dry” Filtration Process™ Pilot study from April to September 2000 at NCSU Lake Wheeler Field conducted by the USDA and North Carolina State University using swine waste show:

The removal of

  • 98 % Suspended Solids (TSS)

  • 98 % Volatile Solids (TVS)

  • 89 % Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD)

  • 62 % Total Kjedahl Nitrogen (TKN)

  • 91 % Organic Nitrogen,

  • 66 % Total Phosphorus,

  • 93 % Organic Phosphorus

FILTER DRAINAGE

  • Created Clear Effluent

  • Filters drained at rate of pump (200 gpm) through gravity filtration

 BIOSOLIDS

  • Removable cake in 24-48 hours, 70 % solids

  • 15% solids in 30 minutes

  • 40% solids in 8 hours
